Fistball season set to start

Namibia’s fistball season will kick off this Saturday, 18 February 2012, with the season’s opening tournament. The SKW Sport Club will host a total of eleven teams that will be participating in two categories. The games start at 8h30.

After an absence of four years the Swakopmund based SFC Sport Club will once again participate against the top Namibian fistball teams having registered a team for the A category.

The SFC made headlines last year by winning the Bank Windhoek National Fistball Cup in this category against more fancied opposition like perennial league champions SKW.

Over the past couple of years, the Swakopmund team focused their efforts on the B category, but have now decided to reach for higher goals. The other teams vying for top spot are two teams from title defenders SKW and two teams from Cohen Fistball Club (CFC).

Six teams will participate in the B category of the competition. Cohen FC 3 is rated as favourites. They have dominated this level of fistball competition for the past two years, winning all the tournaments and league titles on offer. They can expect strong competition from a rejuvenated SFC side as well as an ever improving team from the Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS).

The competition is a precursor to the Bank Windhoek National Fistball League which will start in March. After enjoying a successful year on the international front, the Fistball Association of Namibia will focus on youth development efforts in the coming year.

According to recently re-elected president of the association, Michael Baas, the long term goal is to develop a strong U18 side which will participate in the 2014 U18 Fistball World Championships in Brazil.

The next international event on Namibian soil has been slotted in for October 2013 when the top club sides of the world will be invited to visit Namibia for a tournament.

Fifteen year old Rico Kühnle-Kreitz was named Danric-Auto-Player-of-the-day for his good performance as a spiker in SKW 2 team. At this occasion Danric Auto representative Richard Wahl also announced that the BMW dealer will continue to support Namibian Fistball with a sponsorship during the coming year.

If these Weekends games are anything to go by the Swakopmund based teams of the SFC Sport Club will be major contenders for the Bank Windhoek National Fistball league of which the first games will be played on 10 March 2012 in Swakopmund. The level of Fistball seen in the category A showed a definite improvement from last year and much can be expected for the remainder of the season.

The Namibian Fistball season started off with some exciting games played at the season opening tournament on Saturday. Facing though competition SKW 1 managed to win the Category A competition while SFC Sport Club took home the honours in the Category B. Especially the teams of Swakopmunds SFC Sport Club left a lasting impression.

After a long absence from the competition in the Category A the SFC team put up a good performance winning all their games in the preliminary round to qualify for the final. Part of their success was undoubtedly due to the inclusion of Patrick Schiep, a Fistball active in Germanys Fistball Bundesliga, in the team. In the final they met SKW 1, last year's Bank Windhoek league championship winners. The game lived up to its potential with three very close sets. The first set went down to the wire with the SKW 1 only managing to win the first set 12:10. In the second set the Windhoek team went about their task more decisively winning 11:7. SFC regrouped in the third set, but this was not enough as the SKW took this set with 11:9 to win the trophy.

The final of the category B competition was an equally tense affair between perennial foes Cohen FC and SFC. The first set went the way of SFC with CFC equalising by taking the second set. SFC found back to their game plan during the third and fourth set to be deserved winners of the Category B cup.

Niveauvoller Saisonstart - SKW und SFC gewinnen beim ersten Faustballturnier des Jahres

Die neue Faustballsaison verspricht spannend zu werden. Zwar gewannen beim Eröffungsturnier der neuen Saison mit dem SKW 1 in der Kategorie A und dem SFC Sport Club in der Kategorie B keine unbekannten. Dennoch mussten sich die beiden Mansnchaften im Finale mächtig ins Zeug legen.

Der SFC Sport Club war an vor diesem Turnier der Grosse unbekannte in der Kategorie A. Die Swakopmunder hatten im vergangenen Jahr den Bank Windhoek Pokal gewonnen. Dort hatten sie mit Nick Trinemeier einen Gastspieler aus der deutschenFaustballbundesliga der zu dem Erfolg beitrug. Diesmal trat mit Patrick Schiep wieder ein Gastspieler aus der deutschen Bundesliga für die Swakopmunder an. Der Spiker sorgte in der Vorrunde dafür das die Swakopmunder souverän in das Final einzogen. Sie gewannen alle Spiele. Einzig gegen das Team SKW 2 von Altmeister Michael Baas hatten die Swakopmunder Probleme, das Spiel konnten sie mit nur einem Punkt für sich entscheiden.

Im Final standen sie dann dem SKW 1 gegenüber. Der Ligameister mit Nationalmannschaftskapitän Christoph Kubirske und Spieler des Jahres Michael Zimny in der Startaufstellung machte es spannend und gewann den ersten Satz knapp mit 12:10. Auch die nächsten Sätze gestalteten sich ausgeglichen. Mit 11:7 und 11:9 behielt die stark aufspielende SKW Mannschaft aber letztlich die Oberhand. Von den Verlierern der Partie ist jedoch in dieser Verfassung beim Start der Bank Windhoek Faustballiga in drei Wochen einiges zu erwarten.

In der Katgorie B standen sich die beiden Dauerrivalen Cohen FC3 und SFC 2 im Finale gegenüber. Die beiden Mannschften lieferten sich im vergangenen Jahr eine tolles Ligafinale das erst nach sieben hart umkämpften Saetzen zugunsten des CFC ausging. An diesem Wochenende erwischte der SFC das bessere Ende. Nachdem die Swakopmunder in der Vorrunde noch einige Schwierigkeiten hatten in das Spiel zu finden zeigten sie im Finale ihr ganzes Können. Nachdem sie den ersten Satz gewonnen hatten mussten die Swakopmunder den Ausgleich des engagiert spielenden CFC hinnehmen. Es entwickelte sich in den beiden entscheidenden Sätzen noch ein offener Schlagabtausch der zu Gunsten des SFC ausging.

Spieler des Tages wurde mit Rico Kühnle-Kreitz, ein fünfzehnjähriger Nachwuchsspieler des SKW der zum ersten Mal in der A Kategorie mitspielte. Der Preis wurde von Richard Wahl überreicht der Sponsor DANRIC Motors vertrat. Der BMW-Händler kündigte bei der Gelegenheit an, sein Engagement als Sponsor im namibischen Faustball auch in diesem Jahr fortzusetzen.

Nächster Termin auf dem namibischen Faustbalkalender ist der Autakt der Bank Windhoek Faustballliga der am 10. März in Swakopmund stattfindet.

Mit einer starken Leistung in der Defensive trug Nationalspieler Michael Zimny zum Turniererfolg des SKW 1 bei. Die Heimmannschaft gewann ein spannendes Finale mit 3:0 Sätzen gegen des SFC.

STARTSCHUSS FUER DIE NAMIBISCHE FAUSTBALL LIGA - Spielplan

In Swakopmund wird am kommenden Samstag der erste Spieltag der namibischen Faustball-Liga ausgetragen. Ab 8.30 Uhr gehen die Manschaften der Nationalliga A und B an den Start. Unterstütz wird die Meisterschaft zum zweiten Mal in Folge von dem Finanzhaus Bank Windhoek.

Als Favorit gilt in der höchsten namibischen Spielklasse weiter der Titelverteidiger SKW 1. Die Mannschaft mit Nationalspieler Christoph Kubirske im Angriff zeigte schon mit dem Gewinn des ersten Turniers des Jahres vor drei Wochen eine gute Frühform. Und die will der Serienmeister, der seit 1996 Ligakrösus ist, auch am Wochenende ausbauen und den ersten Schritt Richtung Titelverteidigung machen. In der Liga wird der SFC Sport Club aus Swakopmund nach langer Pause wieder mit um die Meisterschaft kämpfen.

"Für uns gilt konkurrenzfähig zu sein und uns langsam wieder in der Bank Windhoek Nationalliga A zu etablieren" gibt sich sich Jörg Goldbeck, Spielführer der Mannschaft des SFC Sport Clubs und Assistenz-Trainer, vorsichtig. Unterstützung bekommt der Verein in der ersten Saisonhälfte da von Patrick Schiep. Der Spieler aus der deutschen Bundesliga engagiert sich momentan als Trainer bei dem Verein von der Küste und verstärkt an Spieltagen die erste Mannschaft.

In der Bank Windhoek Nationalliga B werden in diesem Jahr 5 Mannschaften gegeneinander antreten. In den letzten zwei Jahren konnte die Mannschaft des Cohen Faustball Clubs sich an der Spitze der Tabelle festsetzen. Konkurrenz haben die Windhoeker in diesem Jahr von den beiden Mannschaften des SFC Sport Clubs zu erwarten. Die Swakopmunder konnten schon den ersten Pokal der Saison in dieser Kategorie gewinnen und wollen nach zwei zweiten Plätzen in der Meisterschaft nun endlich den Sprung an die Spitze schaffen. Es spricht für die Entwicklung des namibischen Faustballs das auch die anderen in dieser Liga vertretenen Vereine durchaus eine Chance haben um die Meisterschaft mitzuspielen. Der Deutsche Turn- und Sportverein zum Beispiel hat sich in seiner ersten Saison in der Bank Windhoek Nationalliga B gute Spielanlagen gezeigt die auf Erfolge in der neuen Saison hoffen lassen.

SERVICE - FISTBALL LEAGUE SET TO START

After an off-season lasting close to four months, the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship will kick off this Saturday in Swakopmund. The Games start at 8.30 on the soccer field of the SFC Sport ground.

A team of the home club, SFC, is a welcome new addition to the line up in the Bank Windhoek National A league. "We expect the team to be competitive but our main aim is to establish a presence in the countries top league for the long run", Jörg Goldbeck Assistant Coach of the club and captain of the first teams said. During the first half of the season they will be assisted by Patrick Schiep, a player from the German Fistball Bundesliga, who is currently in Swakopmund as head coach. The favourites in the Bank Windhoek sponsored league are serial champions SKW 1. The team of national team captain Christoph Kubirske had a good start to the season when they won the season's first silverware at a tournament held three weeks ago. They can expect the toughest competition to come from their second team SKW 2.

The Bank Windhoek National B league will see five teams in action over the weekend. Defending champions Cohen FC will hope to start off their campaign with a couple of wins. They face though opposition from the two teams of the SFC Sport Club.

After ending second and third on the log behind CFC for the past two seasons the Swakopmund teams have a point to prove. A team to watch is the DTS who are only participating in their second full season. They managed a respectable fifth place last season and showed a lot of potential which bodes well for their new campaign for the Bank Windhoek championship.

Defending champs of to a flying start

The Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship kicked off on Saturday with SKW 1 setting about the defense of their title in the Bank Windhoek National League A in convincing fashion. The National League B meanwhile is a balanced affair.

The Windhoek based SKW 1 team left no doubt that they meant business in the new season by winning all their games on the day. They started off by beating the clubs second string side by 4:0 sets before continuing their winning ways with wins of 4:1 against Cohen FC and SFC. Second on the log is Swakopmund based SFC who earned that spot on the points ladder after a thrilling seven set encounter against SKW 2. With the German Bundesliga player Patrick Schiep at the helm the SFC managed a quick 3:0 sets lead against the Windhoek side before the experienced Michael Baas and his SKW teammates managed pull level at 3:3. The game ended after one and a half hours with the final set going the way of the SFC by 11:9 points.

Three teams are level on points at the top of the log of the Bank Windhoek National League B. Cohen FC 3, placed first, SKW 3 and SFC 2 have all won two games and are separated only on sets won and lost. Especially defending league champions Cohen FC have regained their competitive edge after losing the season opening cup tournament to SFC 2 and are the team to watch out for. DTS meanwhile produced an inspiring performance winning two bonus points from their two matches. The team had to start both games with only four players rather than the usual five after a number of players pulled out of the team due to injury and work commitments.

The day ended with a league selection playing against a team of the Atlantis Sport Club who took up Fistball a year ago. Atlantis who hail from Walvis Bay do not participate in the league but used the opportunity to get some much needed match practice. They aim to enter the mid and end of season cup tournaments with a competitive side.

The Bank Windhoek Fistball Championships will continue on 14 April 2012 in Windhoek when the Cohen FC hosts the next round of games.

Second round action kicks off in the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship

Fistball action resumes on Saturday, 14 April 2012, when the Bank Windhoek National Fistball Championships continues on the fields of the SKW in Windhoek. The games of both the Bank Windhoek National A and B league will be played at the venue.

All eyes are on Bank Windhoek National A league newcomers SFC from Swakopmund who currently hold second spot. They showed some promising performances at the first league meeting in March. There is no doubt that Patrick Schiep, a coach and player from Germanys Fistball Bundesliga, will have used the past weeks to work on his teams weak points. Current log leaders and defending champions SKW 1, can expect a tough game when the two teams meet this weekend.

The Bank Windhoek National B league is delicately balanced with three teams on equal points at the top of the table. Defending Champions Cohen FC 3, a resurgent SKW 3 and SFC 2 all have six points. The three teams will be playing each other on Saturday and the teams which manages to gather the most points from these games will get a grip on first place on the log.

The games of the Bank Windhoek A & B leagues will start at 10h00 after the games of the U18 Championship between teams from SKW, Cohen FC and SFC have been completed.

SKW and Cohen FC tighten grip on league

SKW and the Cohen FC remain firmly in control of the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship after the weekends exciting league action.

SKW 2 under the leadership of former national team captain Michael Baas, were the team of the day in the National A league taking home the maximum number of points from their three matches. They convincingly beat the Swakopmund team of the SFC Sport Club by 4: 2 sets, in a match that was interrupted by a rain and hail storm after the second set. Baas made better use of the wet playing surface than Patrick Schiep, main Spiker for SFC who was playing in his last game for the club before returning to Germany. Later in the day SKW 2 went on to win against SKW 1 in a rather one sided match. In spite of this loss SKW 1 remain log leaders by a three point margin. SKW 2 is second followed by SFC in third place.

Cohen FC 3 tightened their grip on the Bank Windhoek National B league with three straight sets wins on Saturday. The defending champions have yet to lose a set in this year's competition and are 5 points ahead of their closest rivals in the league table. With a win against SKW 3 the coastal boys of SFC 2 managed to jump one spot to second place. SKW 3 meanwhile had a rotten day with only one win from three matches. This cost them second place and they are now placed third. The team of the DTS delivered an impressive performance in two of their games and is now fourth with only one point between them and SKW 3. This is an impressive result considering that the DTS team only joined the league a year ago.

U18 player Kirsten von Biljon garnered the coveted DANRIC -Auto-player-of-the-day award with her solid performance for Cohen FC 3 in the National B league.

The Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship will only continue in June when the next round of games will be played in Windhoek. Fistball supporters at the coast can however look forward to the Coastal Classic, the only indoor Fistball tournament in Namibia, which will be played on 12 May 2012.

Fistball championship on final stretch

Tension is rising in the Bank Windhoek Fistball championship due to be played on Saturday at the SKW soccer fields with teams vying for a spot in the championship finals. In order to remain in contention for the championship title teams of the National A league and National B league need to end the day on one of the top three spots of the log.

It will be a though day for Cohen FC 1 in the Bank Windhoek National A league. The team needs to retain the third place it currently occupies on the log. Cohen will have their work cut out since they will be playing SKW 1 and SKW 2 on Saturday while a spirited SFC team from Swakopmund is breathing down their necks. The SKW teams have been the dominant teams once again this season and have made themselves comfortable at the top of the log. SKW 1, the defending champions in the Bank Windhoek National A league, are widely expected to keep a clean sheet on Saturday stay in first place. This would give SKW 1 automatic qualification to the leagues championships final in September. The second and third placed teams will need to decide the second participant of the final in a semi final. SKW 2 only have a theoretical change of catching up to their peers but are virtually assured of their second place should they win against Cohen FC 1.

DTS have come a long way in Bank Windhoek National B league since joining the league last season. They are not only in third place on the log but they are also the only which has won a match against Cohen FC 3 who have dominated proceeding in the Bank Windhoek Fistball championships second tier league. Officials at the club have confirmed that their goal is at least third place in this years league campaign which would be a major success after DSTS managed only sixth place in last years championship. The going will be though however since DTS will need to win at least one of their matches against either SKW 3, who are in second place on the log or SFC 2 who are separated from DTS on log by ball difference only. SKW 3 will be without main Spiker Andi Bachran and it will take some special performances by the SKW players to compensate for his absence. With second place and fourth place separated by one point only the Bank Windhoek National B league will definitely produce some fine Fistball.

After the days games a panel of experts will announce the DANRIC Auto player of the day at a function at the Cohen FC club house.

Fistball championship both SKW teams in play offs !!!

In last weekend’s windy conditions, SKW 1 and Cohen FC 3 won all their games during the fourth round of the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship to stay top of the National A and National B leagues respectively. The two Windhoek based sides are the first teams to qualify for their leagues’ championship final due to be held in September. Defending champions, SKW 1, had a comfortable day winning their matches against SFC 1 and CFC 1 with ease, 4-1 and 4-0 respectively. With these two wins, SKW 1 retained their spot at the top of the Bank Windhoek National A league and have now qualified for the championship final. The second spot on the log remained firmly in the hands of SKW 2, while Cohen FC 1 managed to remain in third spot, despite losing all their games on Saturday

Faustballmeisterschaft enstchieden

Mit einem klaren Sieg im Meisterschaftsfinale hat sich der Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) 2 am Samstag den Titel in der ersten namibischen Faustballliga gesichert. Ebenso ungefährdet verteidigte Favorit Cohen FC 3 in der Nationalliga B, der zweiten Spielklasse, seinen Titel.

Windhoek - Nach der mindest Zahl von fünf Sätzen war das Finale der Nationalliga A bereits entschieden. Der SKW 2, mit Rekordnationalspieler Michael Baas im Angriff, spielte gegen die Vereinskameraden vom SKW 1 ganz locker auf und liess nichts anbrennen. Zu keiner Zeit war der Sieg der zweiten Garde des SKW gefährdet. Der SKW 1 hatte zwar vom ersten Spieltag die Ligatabelle angeführt konnte aber am Samstag nicht seine Normalleistung abrufen. Das lag unteranderem daran das der letztjährige Meister im Angriff wegen einiger Spielerwechsel geschwächt war. Ausserdem stand der SKW 2 in der defensive stark und spielte größtenteils fehlerfrei. Den Rest erledigte dann Michael Baas der an diesem Wochenende grossartig aufspielte. Der Sieg war für ihn dann auch etwas ganz besonderes. Baas wurde zum zwanzigsten Mal namibischer Faustballmeister.

Im Vorfeld des Finalspiels hatte der Cohen FC 1 für einen Paukenschlag gesorgt. Die blau-weissen hatten sich für das Halbfinale, dessen Sieger sich für das Meisterschaftfinale qualifizierte, mit zwei Spielern aus Südafrika verstärkt. Thorsten Schmidt-Dumont und Helmo Minz, beides Eigengewächse des Vereins die momentan in Stellenbosch ein Studium absolvieren, sorgten dann auch für einen Leistungssprung des Cohen FC1. Für das Finale hatte es dann trotzallem nicht gereicht. Dafür war der SKW 2, mit dem es der CFC 1im Halbfinale zu tun bekam einfach zu stark. Für einen Medaillienrang reichte es dennoch. Der CFC 1 belegt im Endklassement den dritten Platz.

Ligakrösus in der Nationalliga B ist und bleibt der Cohen FC 3. In den letzten drei Jahren gewann diese Mannschaft alle Meisterschaften und Pokale die in dieser Spielklasse in Namibia vergeben werden. So ist es auch Samstag geblieben. Zwar gab sich der SKW 3 im Finale um die Meisterschaft große Mühe, die Akzente setzte trotzdem der Cohen FC 3. Andi Minz war in der defensive des CFC für die Gegner schier unüberwindlich während PV Steinkopff seine Routine im Angriff ausspielte. Mit einem 5:0 Satzsieg ging der CFC vom Feld.

Den dritten Platz sicherte sich der Swakopmunder SFC. Für die Bronzemedaille musste sich die Mannschaft von der Küste mächtig ins Zeug legen. Erst nach sieben Sätzen und mehr als zwei Stunden Spielzeit konnten sie den Deutschen Turn- und Sportverein (DTS) mit 4:3 Sätzen bezwingen.

Eine besondere Ehrung gab es nach Ende des Spieltages für zwei Spieler des Cohen FC. Götz Friedrich und Andi Minz bekamen den Danric Auto Spieler des Tagespokal.

Namibias Faustballsaison ist noch nicht zu Ende.

Am 3 November wird in Swakopmund der namibische Faustballpokal ausgespielt. Ausserdem will der namibische Faustballverband bis dann schon die ersten Schritte bei der Planung des Weltpokal 2013 unternehmen. Die interkontinentale Vereinsweltmeisterschaft wird nächstes Jahr in Namibia ausgetragen und der neue Meister der Nationalliga A wird an dem Turnier teilnehmen.
